2010 TYRE LIST - IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ

Below is the mandatory tyre list for the 2010 race season. Your tyres must be on this list.

2010 MSA Tyre List

If they are not then you must email Steve Wells with a description of your tyre pattern, the tyre on the list it is most like and a photograph. This will then be sent to the MSA, and you will require their approval before you are allowed to race the vehicle.

The MSA Tyre List is subject to change, and it is your responsibility to ensure your tyres are from their current list. Check on the website below.

NORC CHARITY DINNER DANCE & AWARDS CEREMONY

30^th January saw our Dinner Dance and Awards Ceremony for the 2009 season. This year it was held as a charity event, to raise funds for the Lincolnshire & Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance Appeal. By way of a raffle and a portion of the ticket sales the club raised £587 for the appeal, with help from the companies that donated the raffle prizes.

The venue was the Cedar Court, Bradford. The evening kicked off with a delicious three course meal, followed by the all-important speeches, the raffle and then onto a fantastic live band, Recovery, who very kindly donated £100 of their fee to the charity.

Chairman, Will Duckworth, presented the awards, with the help of the sponsors for each trophy, and started by thanking the timekeepers, Sue Cartwright and Fiona Urwin. The Pete Caton Marshall’s Award went to James Purnell, who has attended all events with great enthusiasm. Robin Clarkson received the Sports Personality Award, having given up lots of his time to help the club, and stepping in last minute at events when needed. Thanks were given to Chief Scrutineer, Peter Urwin for attending every meeting and scrutineering. The Top Tomcat Award went to Anthony Jackson, for coming in as the first Tomcat for the season. Best Service Crew Award went to Rod George, who services Pete Roberts' vehicle.

There were 41 entries in the 2009 championship. Ben Middleton took the B5 Class winner yet again, getting 15^th overall and Mark Shaw scooped the B4 Class winner with a 7^th overall. The Class C7 winner went to Mark Harris, 25^th overall, and the C8 winner was Steve Hickman, a very respectable 5^th overall. C9 went to one of the younger drivers Ben Gill, taking 4^th overall, and the C10 Class winner went to Robert Simmonite, coming in 7^th overall.

It was then on to the overall winners, and two brothers had been battling it out all season. 2007 Championship Winner Pete Roberts came 3^rd overall, having had two seconds over the course of the year. Ian Bartram’s last season before retiring gave him three second places, coming in 2^nd overall, and Pete’s brother Ian Roberts, having had a fantastic year and winning all seven rounds, came 1^st overall.

The celebrations went on until the early hours, and there were some very sore heads over breakfast in the Cedar Court Breakfast lounge the next day.

MARSHALLS WANTED

Get the best view of the course and see all the action close up - NORC require marshalls for the next event. No experience is necessary as training can be given and no vehicle is necessary as it is possible to marshall on foot. If anyone can give up just a couple of hours it would be appreciated. Contact Mark Calzoni on contacts page for more information or just turn up on the day and speak to an official.

NORC CAMPING RULES

Please be aware that we need to have certain rules when running events in order to keep everyone safe and ensure a good time is had by all. Please try and keep to the list of rules below.

All engines and generators to be switched off at 11pm

Quiet time after midnight

All children to be supervised

All dogs to be kept on lead

All litter to be taken home

NEW NORC LEAFLETS

We have had some leaflets printed advertising the NORC club in order to recruit new members, as well as asking for new land. If anyone wants to distribute some, maybe put them on a counter at work etc please feel free to collect them from the timing wagon at the Baden Hall event.

NICE EMAIL SENT IN

We have had the following email sent in, after the Stainby event. It's good to hear something nice.

Just got home from watching the NORC event at Stainby. I would like to say to everyone in the club what a pleasure it was for me. I was one of the founder members of NORC. I was the first secretary with Raymond Sagar as Chairman. I have been out of the sport for about 20 years but I am so pleased to witness the club in such good health and in such good hands. The motors ALL sounded orgasmic! The course was great and the driving courageous! The weather might have had an influence on the mood of everyone but hey! Everyone I spoke to made an old man very happy! The young folks were happy to talk to an old grey haired gimmer, and I would just like to finish with a thank you to the Sagar family for making us all feel so welcome, oh! and Kate is still talking about her ride around the course! Thanks guys. May you continue to go from strength to strength! Jeremy Wilkinson.

IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR 2009 CHAMPIONSHIP

SPILL KITS ARE NOW COMPULSARY

Starting with Round 1 at Wickenby, it will now be compulsary for each vehicle racing to carry it's own Spill Kit. These are to be used to stop contamination of fuel or oil onto any land, in the event of a roll etc. Failure to carry one will result in the vehicle being refused a start.

These kits will be available from the Norc timing wagon, and will cost a very reasonable £5. This will include two pads to soak up any spills, two disposal bags and a pair of disposable gloves. It is possible to purchase these elsewhere, but the prices range from £15 to around £30. We have put together our own kits with the bare minimum needed for the job to keep the costs down.

NORC DINNER DANCE & AWARDS CEREMONY & WINNERS

It’s coming up to the start of a new season for us, and with that comes a new and enthusiastic committee. Hopefully this year is going to be an important year for the club, with lots of changes centring around putting the club back on the map. Some of the new committee members were the original founding members, going back over 25 years.
February saw a social gathering with a difference for the club. This time, instead of race suits and dirty overalls, members were wearing tuxedos, suits and evening dresses. This occasion was the Norc Dinner Dance and Awards Ceremony. It was the one night of the year when all Norc members and their guests get together and really chill out, and there wasn’t a single spanner in hand, although one member did have nut and bolt cufflinks and a spanner bracelet!!
The venue was the Bridge Inn, Wetherby, where many guests were staying the night also. This proved to be a very worthy venue. The evening started out with a lovely three course meal, and then it was time for the prize giving and speeches, a raffle, and followed by a disco, with reasonable amounts of alcohol being consumed until the early hours. Raffle prizes were donated by Manby Motorplex, Simmonites, Lubico Oils, Bram Racing and Victoria Chaloner.
One of the first jobs for new chairman Wilson Duckworth was the prize giving. He was accompanied by the winner of sports personality of the year for the NORC, Simon Harrision. Recognition was given not just to the drivers, but the timekeepers, marshals, service crews and everyone who gladly gives their time to keep this club alive.
The Marshal’s Shield Award went to Simon Cotton, who attends every event and marshals in his well equipped coil sprung lightweight.
As already mentioned, Sports Personality of the Year went to Simon Harrison, who always puts in 110% effort, whether he is marshalling, timekeeping or driving.
Thanks and a bottle of whisky was given to the chief scrutineer Peter Urwin. He is always available with advice, and never fails to have a smile on his face
A special thanks went to Victoria Chaloner for organising the evening, and also thank you to Jon Wilson, who organised a slideshow and took photos throughout the evening.

The 2008 season had 53 registered drivers and was run over six rounds.

Here are the results for the 2008 championship. Congratulations to everyone that made it.

Class Winners

Class A1 - Ian Hough driving car no. 53 Landrover 90 TD5.
Class B4 - Mark Shaw driving car no. 40 – finished 7th overall
Class B5 - Ben Middleton driving for the Tic Tok Racing Team car no. 16
Class C8 - Ian Jones driving car no. 59 - 3.5 litre V8 Tomcat – finished 5th overall
Class C9 - Gary Reed driving car no. 5 – finished 4th overall
Class C10 - Colin Brindley driving car no. 48 – finished 6th overall

Overall Championship 2008 Winners

**** 1st overall – Brian Farmer (Huggy) ****

Driving car no. 11 for Tik Tok Racing Team – 3.6 litre Porsche powered Warrior. He has been class champion in several classes for the last six years and is the self acclaimed Off Road Driving God. – Huggy’s sponsors include Elite Racing Transmissions, Lubico Oils, Logo That/Logo This Racewear, D2 Bearings, Proflow Exhausts, BMF Services. He also gave thanks to CBM Motorsports, Bingley Catering Supplies, Naan, Badger, Bern Sang De Merd, Roller, Three and Peter from the Propshaft Clinic.

*** 2nd overall – Peter Roberts ***

Driving car no. 1- 5 litre V8 Land Rover Special - Peter is the former National Comp Safari Champion and 2007 NORC Champion. He gave thanks to his ‘main mechanic’ Rod George who takes his motor to every event and keeps him and the motor in one piece. Without his help the season would not be the same.

** 3rd overall – Steve Almond **

Driving car no. 660 – 2 litre Rover turbo Tornado – Steve gave his thanks to all friends and family for their support and help, all the organisers for a cracking season, all the competitors and teams for their own efforts, www.bulldog-spirit.co.uk and Short Sport Racing at www.tp4x4.com for their support and last but not least his overdraft facility.
