i promised to put something of fact on here tonight regarding much confusion among some drivers regarding tyres I have had a word with the chairman and here are the results

You can use any tyre in 2010 that is on the MSA list, these can be either Aggresive, Mud terrain or All Terrain If you dont get your monies worth out of your Diamonds etc. this year they should sell to the trial fraturnity who will still be using them in 2011 BUT WE WONT BE USING THEM IN 2011

IN 2011 ALL AGRESSIVE TYRES WILL BE BANNED

The senarios i was asked today -- yes you can buy agressive and use them this year.

No one will fail scrutineering if they have a set of tyres from the 2010 tyres list issued by the MSA on disc and Blue book

(There will be a couple of others that are not on the list such as Amazon which is identical to the Insa Turbo Sahara this is going through the MSA channels at the moment) I will post the results on here as soon as i receive the decision from the MSA

I have seen mud clearer than this but hope you can see through the clouds

Has anyone found any on the "6a AT list" tyres at a decent price. Im struggling to find any. Preferred are Insa Turbo Rangers, or Kingpin Technic Trackers. Both are similar to BF Goodrich ATs.

Built approx 5 years ago by Steve Mitchell he raced it for 2 seasons winning class both years and finishing in top 10 both years with AWDC, then it was bought by Alisport for some further enhancements before coming to me, I raced my first full season in it in 08 winning NORC B4 class and coming 7th overall, Also won the 2009 Diesel Class.

This racer is as good as they get as far as reliability goes, it has finished every event it has started both in my hands and Steve Mitchells.

Car had a 5 page feature in Feb 08 Land rover owner’s magazine following the work Alisport did on it, copy supplied to and purchaser.

Specification

Frame

Based on a tomcat design and made from Blue band steel chassis is off a Disco and in mint condition no rust at all, has a Tomcat fibreglass bonnet, 90 wings and the rest of the panels are flat ali sheet.

Engine

200tdi replacement low millage block fitted before start of 09 season, Nissan GTR turbo, ported and polished heads (heads and valves refurbished before start of 09 season), pump turned up and wastegate repositioned, boosted to 18psi (has in cab gauge) still plenty to go if you want it alot of 200’s are running much higher boost and much more smoke!!!

Suspension

2.5 inch remote res foxes all round, heavy duty springs, cranked radius arms front and rear with adjustable panhard on rear, Heavy duty track rod and steering bars.

Transmission

R380 gearbox, 5 races old brand new 24spline 4 pin diff in front, 24 spine welded diff in rear, both axels strengthened (Rear replaced with a new Tomcat modified axel winter of 08/09) Both have diff pan gaurd’s, had new Clutch kit and slave cylinder fitted 2 race ago.

Other

Has massive allisport intercooler and Allisport radiator in front, 1.5 ratio steering quickener, dry cell battery, registered as tax exempt, No MOT but should go straight through if required, braided front brake lines, new brake master cylinder, all required items to pass scrutineering, 5 point harnesses, fire extingushers, air horn passenger controls etc

Come and have a look it’s at Elland West Yorkshire, will be racing with NORC again in 2010 if it doesn’t sell , I will be buying a replacement so may consider part exchange or just give me a call on 07979 568317

Hi,

2010 Spec Helmets BS6658-1985 Typre A/FR

I know of some good BS6658-1985 Typre A/FR (Red Sticker) helmets for sale at £90 each and will have some at Newstead this weekend if anyone is interested and wants to look at them. Their stocks are getting low as so many people are after them and they now only have peaked helmets left. These are full faced helmets, but with peaks instead of visors.

REMEMBER FOR 2010

If you have a helmet with a blue BS sticker, B S6658-85 Type A. it MUST be replaced next year as they are no longer valid for use in MSA events.

Mud flaps must be fitted as per C 302 page 259 (print in red) msa blue book.

Tyres, if you are intending to use your "AGGRESIVE" tyres up in 2010 remember they must be from the MSA tyre list V. If BUYING NEW TYRES for next year make sure they are also on the MSA list. AS FROM 2011 NORC WILL BE USING TYRES FROM MSA LIST V (17A & 17B)

FAILURE TO DO ANY OF THE ABOVE WILL RESULT THE THE SCRUTINEER TELLING YOU CANNOT COMPETE.

For sale 1 quaiffe torque bias diff, complete ready to throw in, built into land rover casing with "pegged" crown wheel conversion, standard 300tdi 90 ratio, suitable for front or rear axle please note these are 19 spline and a 24 spline shaft will not go in (thats from experience!!!!)

Long shaft, aerospec 19 spline diff end, 24 spline standard end cap, ideal as spare £40.00

Quaiffe big end cap (if you get another Quaiffe shaft) £10.00 or will throw it in if someone buys the lot

Rear axle casing, turned for rear engine motor, big strong diff pan extra oil capacity, strengthened without being too heavy, mounts for TD5 rear arms. Very slight bend but shafts still go in OK £40.00

They have got rid of the Blue british sticker at the end of 2009, with an aim to getting rid of helmets that have been around longer than me probably!! I've spoken to Pete Urwin and the red british sticker is still an acceptable standard.

Following the last commitee meeting, it has been decided to allow people to run off their Diamonds etc through the year, once you have used up your stocks, including all the green ones behind the shed, DONT BUY ANYMORE!!!!

We will then be using tyres from the All Terrain and Mud Terrain MSA lists.

The commitee feel this is the fairest way of changing the allowed tyres, in these hard times no one wants to have to just go out and buy a new set of tyres, natural transition is easier for all.

If you are at a stage now where you will need tyres for next year buy MUD TERRAINS do not buy diamonds and think "its OK I can use them next year", we are trying to help people out here.

For Sale is my Mercedes 814 recovery truck/transporter. It is a rare double sleeper cab with night heater. I got the truck 7 years ago and it has had very light use ever since to an from races. before me it was owned by Midgely Motors in Skipton and used for collecting 4x4s.
It was completely refurbished 4 years ago with re-spray and new beaver tail body etc.

It has side lockers, winch, bluetooth phone, alloy ramps, work lights, trailer and caravan electrics.
I have not raced for a couple of years now and is just not bieng used enough, it is showing some rust through on the cab, and the drivers seat has split, has tax and 12 months test. £3999

For Sale is my Mercedes 814 recovery truck/transporter. It is a rare double sleeper cab with night heater. I got the truck 7 years ago and it has had very light use ever since only to and from races. before me it was owned by Midgely Motors in Skipton and used for collecting 4x4s.
It was completely refurbished 4 years ago with re-spray and new beaver tail body etc.

It has side lockers, winch, bluetooth phone, alloy ramps, work lights, trailer and caravan electrics.
I have not raced for a couple of years now and is just not bieng used enough, it is showing some rust through on the cab, and the drivers seat has split, has tax and 12months test

From my understanding.....

'WE' as a club will allow any tyre from any of the lists, to race on.

BUT, if 'WE' as a club race with another club, for example AWDC, and they have said list 'a' only, then you can't play unless you swap tyres. or a specific landowner says no to list'c' then you can only play on tyres off 'a' or 'b'...

Presume if you are only racing at norc a few races a year, then no reason not to run on list 'c' tyres, but if you have higher aspirations, then you need either several sets of tyres, or buy off list 'b' and hope that opens up your racing options.

At the end of the season I will be selling my racer, if you are intersted it will be at the last 3 events but not available until the end of the season.

HIstory is built approx 5 years ago by Steve Mitchell (AWDC Comp Sec) he raced it for 2 seasons winning class both years and finishing in top 10 both years, then it went to Andy at Alisport for some enhancements before comming to me, I raced my first full season in it in 08 winning class and comming 7th overall, this year I am winning class again.

This racer is A1 it has finished ever event it has started both in my hands and Steve Mitchells.

Car had a 5 page feature in Feb 08 Land rover owners magazine following the work Ali sport did on it, copy supplied to and purchaser.

Spec off top of my head is

Engine

200tdi new block fitted before start of this season, nissan GTR turbo, ported and polished heads (heads and valves refurbished before start of 09 season), pump turned up and wastegate repositioned, only boosted to 18psi still plenty to go if you want it.

Suspension

2.5 inch remote res foxes all round, new heavy duty springs, cranked radius arms had new tomcat rear axel fitted winter 09

Transmission

R380 gearbox, 5 races old brand new 24spline 4 pin diff in front, 24 spine welded diff in rear

Jon you are correct if you want to take photos as an official photographer out on the course then you need to sign on the MSA form which can be found in the club truck (this is a condition of the MSA permit). If you are just taking 1 or 2 photos for your own use and have ticked the box on your membership form for the photo permit then you do not need to sign on as a photographer.

This issue was brought up at the last committee meeting and it was agreed that photographers do need to sign on at each event as it is a requirement of the MSA permit regarding insurance cover and this is a seperate issue to the child protection photography permit which you ticked on the membership form which is also required by NORC to cover us legally.

Just though i would get an update on the requirements for taking photos at events, I understand from previous years that if you a member and ticked the photo box on application of membership, you are allowed to take photos at events as required by the msa child protection rule. (All those taking photos at events must have their details on record with the child protection officer). My question is, as a member who has a photo permit, does this mean i still have to sign on as a photographer at each event?. I was told originally to join, as it would save me having to find the child protection officer at each event - otherwise i take it there was no point in joining the club (as i dont compete) and therefore just sign on at each event?.

Discovery rear engine diesel racer

Discovery rear engine diesel racer 16^th over all in AWDC championship 2006.

This racer has always turned heads and found interest both on the track and in the pits, lots of people have commented on how well it performs as it looks like a standard discovery until closer inspection.

This racer is based on the two front ends of a Range Rover chassis with a discovery body on top which has had been on a diet making it lighter. The engine is an Isuzu 2.8TD with a TD5 turbo, oil cooler and an Allisport intercooler. The clutch is a V8 helix heavy duty paddle clutch as the standard one would not last one race due to, too much torque from the engine.

The gear box is a standard lt77 box with a reverse linkage to make the gear stick follow the right pattern into a Milner 2wd drive adaptor then into a Milner transfer box running 1.13 ratio. The rear two prop shafts are standard Land Rover props with a Milner joiner in the middle and the front has been made by the propshaft clinic.

The axles are 110 front and the rear is a Range Rover with a torque biased diff. Both have radius arm conversion with Discovery 2 bushes chassis end instead of top hat type bushes all with 12” fox shocks.

The Body work has been race brushed but do have a few extra panels as spares which will come with the car.

As this car is set up for the rough it would make a good XTC car as there is plenty of room to fit winches and the air box is about 1.5m high.

The price is 6250 ono.

Keith, Your quite right, that section is about roll cages which makes it all the more ridiculous, if you get to the segment about the size of tubes required its tagged in at the bottom of that paragraph.

as far as the size for ATVs I dont know, at the end of the day theres not as much to set on fire is there.

Anyone can ring the MSA , they are very approachable and you can get it from the horses mouth.

For £25 are you not better off with the additional amount of extinguishant and possibly putting the fire out and not wrecking thousands of pounds worth of race car??? I have seen fires go almost out and then the extinguisher runs out, its soul destroying watching someone throw dust and dirt on their car as it burns away merrily. Its a safety matter chaps.

I take it both extinguishers have to be accessable from both the driver & navigators seat whilst strapped in...? Would it be OK to have one for the driver & one for the navigator? Just thinking on where to possition 2 2ltr units!!!! (subject to us needing them of course!) This racing is getting expensive with rule changes. Can find a reasonably priced helmet for next year anywhere! If any one knows where to get one please let me know - Could we do a bulk NORC order & get them at trade price????

Hi there just want to point out that the new regs for the atv's state that you need a 1.75l extinguisher, if they are entering the same race as us surley they need to be carrying the same equipment that we have to? also if cars in the bccc only have to carry a 1.75l extinguisher this season why is norc different?

Hi Matt,

First, section 301 refers to rollcage specification.

The section on page 259 refereing to the non plumbed /plumbed extinguisher is section303 but this section is headed Team Recovery and Timed Trial which I beleive is CCV. and there fore is not applicable to other types of cross country discipline. This section was the same in last years blue book also so why the sudden change? Since no specific mention is made with regard to comp safari fire extinguishers in the cross country technical section then you would expect to follow the general technical / safety regs which brings you back to the original size of extinguisher a 1.75 .litre hand held.

Please note that my only reason for pursueing the point is to save people spending money on something they may not need in these hard times.Our car has carried 2 x 2litre extinguishers at all times.

The extinguishers have arrived, they are 2 litre capacity and come complete with metal wire type bracket and stainless steel belly band/clip, they will be £25.00 each and will be available at Stainby from the club truck.

OK chaps and chapettes, following a conversation with Peter Urwin last night and a further conversation with MSA technical today, we DO need to have 2.25 litres. Heres how it works............Blue book page 259 Sec 301 refers to: cars must comply with CC56(B) not plumbed, herein lies the key, if you then refer to Page 171 and look up CC56(B) it says med plumbed in at 2.25litres, however the reference to NOT PLUMBED on page 259 overides the plumbed in bit on the table (Pg 171), therefore we need 2.25 litres but it doesnt have to be plumbed in.... voila!!!

Clear as mud but thats how it is folks.

The extinguishers I am getting to bring to Stainby are not full 2.25 litre capacity they can however be used as additional. I would think full size would need to come from Demon tweeks, Peter Lloyd etc etc

Not sure off the top of my head what size they are but they aren't the full alleged new capacity, they will however "make up the difference". As soon as they are delivered I will post size.

Looking with interest at the debate surrounding fire extinguisher capacity, however I am struggling to see what has been changed. My understanding of the Blue Book was that a single 1.75 litre hand held AFFF extinguisher was the minimum requirement for cross country events at our level. The 2009 Blue Book contains exactly the same chart as 2008 and so can some one explain why we now need an extinguisher capacity that does not appear in the Blue Book? Table 56 on page 171 indicates all the current minimum sizes and the only hand held extinguisher size applicable to our level of competition is 1.75litre.

Would someone clarify the situation please?

the "Old" jeepman logo was actually resurrected about 3 years ago ,if you see it on some clothing etc it looks very smart, there have been numerous "attempts" at new logos and nothing seems to cut it. Lets face it we have had it all this time why change it, thousands of other companys, institutions, keep their logo the same, seems to work worldwide!!

 I think it looks a bit cheezy to be honest, what was wrong with the old one ( a cartoon type picture of a racer going down a hill) it looked more like what the club is about.

As the only Hillrally running at the moment is the Scottish, you are allowed to use 'recip' tyres....they make diamonds look like slicks !!

Yes John i have got them on my landrover and i found them very good in the mud at Manby as they are self cleaning (well i did not get bogged down despite a few big holes which i found), the Colway mud terrains that i used last year were crap in the mud at Manby. The tread appears to be faily aggressive and their is some additional side wall protection and so far i think they are quite good mud terrain tyre.

2 or 3 mats (normally about A4 to A3 size) in a bin bag (to keep them dry, ish) would be fine. Where you get them from or what brand they are don't matter, as long as they're there.

I get the arco kits as they seam good money for what you get.

At least we're giving you all a year's notice to run out your current stock of diamonds, and have a progressive change over period.

If we join with the AWDC and the BCCC we can hopefully stear the MSA in the direction that we want the sport to go.

But you're ok with carrying a spill kit then?

surely this is something for the members to decide, as it is such a unpopular subject, (not everyone hasthe luxury of being near the pub where the comitee meet.

I agree bring in a tyre list, but only for the events that require one, but free tyres for those that don't (i.e. Manby, Stainby, Withworth, Wickenby......)

Please consult the drivers before doing anything - AWDC are already having to back peddle with their rule.

Spill kit's. You will all need to carry a small spill kit in the car from in 2009 (2 or 3 of the matts and a bin bag to put them in would be fine), less than £30 gets you a kit with 20 matts in to keep in the service vehicle (ARCO).

and (we're not going to be popular here I know)

After much debating we are going to introduce a new tyre rule, we will, like the AWDC adopt the hill rally tyre list, and i'll try and stick the list on here in a min.

So it's the end for the diamond tyre! kind of.

We are going to give you all a year to run out your current stock of diamonds (we will come up with a max tred depth so we have somthing to measue against). So if you've any new ones make sure that you use them a couple of times this year and they should be worn enough.
